Nicholas Hasluck AM QC presenting “About Sir Lawrence Jackson”
The UWAHS committee, society members, friends and guests were joined at an informal gathering to hear award-winning author and retired Supreme Court Judge the Honourable Justice Nicholas Paul Hasluck AM QC deliver a short presentation followed by questions and discussion on “Sir Lawrence Jackson”.
Sir Lawrence Jackson (1913‐1993) was a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. He served on the Senate of The University of Western Australia for many years before being appointed Chancellor in 1968. The presentation will cover the highlights of his career including his admission to the Bar in Perth in 1937, his appointment to the Supreme Court in the post‐war period, his involvement in various leading cases including the Button and Beamish cases, and his contribution to the life of the University.
Nicholas Hasluck studied at The University of Western Australia, then Oxford, and went on to serve as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. He is well‐known also as a writer whose works include 11 novels and several travelogues. His appointments include Chair of the Australian Literature Board and of the Commonwealth Writers Prize. He is presently on the Board of the WA Art Gallery.
